Description

Sellier & Bellot’s 9mm 115-grain JHP is a straightforward defensive and duty load from one of Europe’s oldest continuous ammunition manufacturers, in production since 1825. It suits shooters who want a hollow point round for self-defense or occasional carry use without paying a premium for boutique ammunition.

The jacketed hollow point construction pairs a full-length copper jacket with a hollow nose cavity. On impact with soft tissue, hydraulic pressure forces the cavity to expand outward, increasing the bullet’s diameter and transferring energy more efficiently than a round-nose profile would. The jacket controls that expansion by slowing petal rollback, which helps the bullet retain enough mass to reach adequate penetration depth rather than fragmenting early. That balance between expansion and penetration is the core trade-off JHP bullets are designed to manage, and it’s why this bullet type is the standard choice for defensive applications over full metal jacket.

At 1,237 fps muzzle velocity, this load generates 391 ft-lbs of muzzle energy — enough to drive reliable expansion in a standard service-weight projectile. Brass cases and Boxer primers make the spent brass reloadable for those who work up their own handloads. The cartridges are non-magnetic, which matters at ranges that screen for steel-core ammunition. Available in boxes of 50 or cases of 1,000, the case option makes sense for shooters who also practice with this load to confirm point-of-impact consistency between their carry and training ammunition.
