This barrel is built for the AR-10 shooter who wants a full-power .308 Winchester platform oriented toward precision work at distance — whether that means reaching out from a bench, hunting larger game, or building a capable designated marksman rifle. The 20-inch length is a deliberate functional choice: it allows the rifle gas system to cycle on a longer dwell time, which spreads the bolt’s unlocking impulse across more of the bullet’s travel and returns a noticeably softer, more measured recoil pulse compared to shorter carbine or mid-length configurations on the same cartridge. That longer dwell also promotes more consistent extraction under a wider range of ammunition and conditions.

The 1:10 twist rate is well-suited to the bullet weights most commonly loaded in .308 Winchester — roughly 147 to 175 grains — stabilizing them reliably without over-spinning lighter projectiles. Shooters running 175-grain match loads will find this rate keeps those bullets flying true, while those using standard 147- or 150-grain ammunition will see no compromise. The barrel is machined from 416R stainless steel and given a QPQ finish, which Ballistic Advantage refers to as their Premium Black Series treatment. QPQ is a salt-bath nitride process that hardens the bore surface, reduces friction, and provides meaningful corrosion resistance without changing the underlying steel’s dimensional tolerances. The .750-inch gas block journal and 5/8×24 muzzle threads are standard for this platform, keeping suppressor and muzzle device compatibility broad.
