Description
The Ballistic Advantage Modern Series 20″ barrel is built for precision-oriented AR-308 / AR-10 builds where a full-power .308 Winchester cartridge needs room to fully develop. A rifle-length gas system is the right choice at this barrel length: the longer dwell time and expanded gas port distance spreads the unlocking impulse across a wider cycle, which softens the felt recoil compared to what a shorter gas system would produce on the same platform. That matters on a heavy-caliber semi-automatic where follow-up shot management is part of the equation.
The 1:10 twist rate stabilizes the broad middle of the .308 projectile spectrum well—most 150- to 175-grain match and hunting bullets fall comfortably within that range—making this a practical choice for handloaders and factory-ammo shooters alike without demanding that you chase specialty projectiles to get stable flight. The HBAR contour maintains more mass along the length of the tube, which helps resist heat-induced point-of-impact shift during sustained strings of fire.
The barrel’s 4150 chrome moly vanadium steel is finished in a salt bath nitride treatment—Ballistic Advantage calls this QPQ—that diffuses into the steel surface rather than coating over it. The result is corrosion resistance that does not add meaningful wall thickness or alter the bore dimensions, and the treated bore surface contributes to easier fouling removal. Feed ramps are cut to M4 spec, and the .750″ gas seat diameter accommodates standard-profile gas blocks without requiring a stepped or ramped journal. The 5/8×24 muzzle thread is the expected standard for .30-caliber suppressors and muzzle devices. Compatible with DPMS-pattern bolt carrier groups.
