Description
The B-14 Timber is Bergara’s answer to hunters and field shooters who want a precision-grade action wrapped in a working rifle rather than a target platform. The left-hand configuration is a genuine mirror-image bolt and action, not an afterthought, which matters for a southpaw shooter managing a bolt cycle quickly under field conditions or from a shooting rest.
The stock is American walnut, a material that responds differently than synthetic to temperature and humidity changes, so handloaders and hunters who shoot the same load across seasons should be aware that point-of-impact can shift slightly as wood moves. That said, walnut carries weight and feel that synthetic stocks don’t replicate, and it resists the muzzle-heavy balance that synthetic chassis rifles often produce with a 24-inch barrel. The longer barrel gives .270 Winchester the barrel time it needs to reach full velocity with heavier hunting bullets, particularly in the 150-grain range where the cartridge does its best work at distance.
The 1-in-10-inch twist rate stabilizes the full practical weight range for .270 Winchester, from lighter varmint-weight loads up through 150-grain hunting projectiles, without over-spinning lighter bullets or under-stabilizing heavier ones. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope bases, so the shooter selects their own optic and mount rather than working around a bundled sight system. The manual thumb safety sits where a right-hand shooter’s left thumb or a left-hand shooter’s right thumb can reach it naturally, and it blocks the firing mechanism without requiring the bolt to be cycled before engaging.
