The .22 WRF cartridge predates most of the rimfire rounds still in common circulation, and rifles chambered for it are still out there in attics and gun cabinets — typically older lever-actions and pump-actions whose owners discover the hard way that suitable ammunition is scarce. CCI’s High-Speed load exists specifically to fill that gap, and it remains the only jacketed hollow point offering in this caliber on the market.

The jacketed hollow point construction serves two purposes in this context. First, it delivers reliable, controlled expansion on small game and varmints — the work these old rifles were originally built to do. Second, and more importantly for owners of vintage firearms, the bullet’s pure copper jacket is engineered to be gentle on older barrel steel that was not cut to handle harder modern projectiles. A specially designed bullet base further accommodates the bore geometry common to these aged rifles, reducing the risk of fouling or pressure anomalies that can occur when modern components are forced into century-old chambers.

CCI’s priming compound is formulated for consistent ignition across temperature variation, which matters when you are running ammunition through an action that may have seen decades of use and does not cycle with the precision of a modern firearm. Clean-burning propellants help keep those same actions cleaner between sessions. One firm caution from the manufacturer: this load is not suitable for .22 WRF revolvers, as most of those handguns have undersized bores that cannot safely accept a jacketed bullet. This ammunition is a rifle round, intended for the rifles it was designed around.
