CCI’s .22 LR Shotshell is purpose-built for close-range pest control where a conventional bullet would be either overkill or a ricochet risk. The round fires a charge of #12 shot, which gives you a small spread pattern at short distances — enough to reliably connect with snakes, rodents, and other nuisance pests without the penetration concerns that come with a solid projectile at the same range.

The 31-grain payload keeps muzzle velocity at a modest 1,000 feet per second, which is appropriate for this application. You are not trying to reach out past a few yards; the shot column disperses quickly, so the effective range is intentionally limited. That same quality makes these rounds a reasonable choice for confined spaces like barns, sheds, or crawlspaces where over-penetration is a genuine concern.

One trade-off worth understanding before you buy: these rounds work reliably in revolvers and bolt-action .22s, but the encapsulated shot charge does not reliably cycle the action on semi-automatic firearms. The cartridge geometry and lighter impulse are not designed to run a semi-auto action, so plan accordingly based on your platform. Ported compensators should be avoided with any shot cartridge. The ammunition is new production and non-corrosive, so standard cleaning intervals apply after use.

Available in boxes of 20 or by the case, these are a practical tool to keep on hand for property and livestock protection where a conventional .22 round is not the right answer.
