Description
The Colt 1911 Government/Commander Magazine in stainless steel is a factory-original replacement or spare for shooters running a full-size Government or Commander-frame 1911 in .45 ACP. Because it comes directly from Colt, the feed lips, follower geometry, and overall dimensions are held to the same tolerances as the magazines that shipped with the pistol — which matters when a marginal fit between magazine and feed ramp is one of the more common sources of malfunctions in a 1911 platform.
The stainless construction does real work here. Steel of this type resists the surface corrosion that blued magazines are prone to when exposed to hand oils, humidity, or the occasional range bag soaking. A corroded magazine body can bind against the mag well or cause the follower to drag, neither of which you want under any circumstance. The stainless finish keeps the exterior smooth and the interior surface consistent over time without requiring the attentive maintenance a blued finish demands.
The eight-round capacity puts one additional round over a standard seven-round 1911 magazine, which is a meaningful difference in a pistol whose manual of arms is already built around deliberate reloading. This magazine is compatible with both the full-length Government frame and the shorter Commander frame, so if you run both, a single magazine type covers both guns. It drops free cleanly from a properly fitted 1911 mag well and seats positively without excessive force — behavior that is straightforward to verify on your own bench before you rely on it.
