The double-action/single-action mechanism gives you two meaningfully different trigger paths. Double-action lets you fire from a fully decocked position with a single long pull that rotates the cylinder and drops the hammer, which suits defensive practice or rapid-fire strings. Single-action, where you manually cock the hammer first, produces a lighter, shorter break that rewards deliberate target work. Having both available means the same revolver handles both roles without compromise.

Colt’s one-in-fourteen-inch twist rate is cut for standard .357 Magnum bullet weights and also stabilizes .38 Special loads, so you can train with lighter ammunition and transition to full-power magnum loads without changing anything. The red ramp front sight gives a high-visibility aiming point, while the fully adjustable rear sight lets you dial in point of impact for different load weights — useful when the velocity difference between a 125-grain and a 158-grain bullet produces a measurable shift in point of impact at distance.

Colt redesigned this generation of the Python with additional steel beneath the rear sight, reinforcing one of the areas historically subject to stress from sustained magnum use. The recessed target crown protects the muzzle’s rifling from contact damage, and the front sight is user-interchangeable if your preferred sight picture calls for a different profile. Walnut target grips with a Colt medallion complete the package.
