Description

This is a stripped barrel intended for builders who want a mil-spec foundation without paying for components they already have. It fits AR-15 pattern rifles chambered in 5.56mm NATO and suits shooters building a general-purpose carbine — home defense, range work, or a duty-style build where reliability under sustained use matters more than exotic materials.

Daniel Defense cold hammer forges these barrels from 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium steel. The process works by driving carbide hammers against the outside of the blank while a mandrel sits inside the bore, forming the chamber, lands, and grooves simultaneously under intense hydraulic pressure. The result is a bore geometry that is consistent from end to end and a surface that is denser and harder than what button rifling or cut rifling produce — which translates directly to longer service life before accuracy degrades. The bore is chrome lined for additional corrosion resistance, and the exterior carries a Mil-Spec Heavy Phosphate finish. Both are serviceable choices for a working barrel rather than a safe queen.

The carbine-length gas system positions the gas port closer to the chamber than a mid-length arrangement. That shortens the distance propellant gas travels before it acts on the bolt carrier, which increases bolt velocity and dwell time. The practical effect is a sharper, more abrupt recoil impulse compared to a mid-length system on the same barrel length — something to weigh if you are sensitive to felt recoil or building for a new shooter. The 1-in-7 twist rate stabilizes heavier projectiles reliably, making it well suited to 62-grain M855 and 77-grain match loads, though it handles standard 55-grain ammunition without issue. The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28 TPI, which is the standard pattern for 5.56 muzzle devices. Barrel manufacture takes place at Daniel Defense’s facility in Black Creek, Georgia, and each barrel is magnetic particle tested before leaving the plant.
