Description
Federal’s All-American is a competition-focused trap and skeet load built around the demands of registered target shooting, where consistent patterns and manageable recoil matter as much across the hundredth shell as the first. The #8 shot size is the standard choice for close to mid-range clay targets, where a denser pellet cloud is more forgiving of minor lead errors than larger shot would be.
The load’s defining feature is the Podium wad, a one-piece design engineered specifically for straight-wall hulls rather than adapted from a tapered-hull design. The wad includes a dedicated compression zone that absorbs the shock of ignition before it reaches the payload, which reduces pellet deformation at the moment of setback. Less deformed shot means more pellets retain their spherical shape through the bore, which translates directly to tighter, more uniform patterns downrange — the kind of consistency that matters when breaking doubles or running a long string.
Federal specifies high-antimony lead for the shot charge. Antimony hardens the lead alloy, making individual pellets more resistant to deformation both at ignition and during the trip down the barrel. The trade-off relative to softer shot is a slight density reduction, but for target work the pattern uniformity gained outweighs any marginal energy difference. At 1,200 fps the load sits in a velocity range that keeps recoil manageable through extended shooting sessions without sacrificing the energy needed to reliably break standard clay targets. Each box contains 25 shells, with 410 pellets per load.
