The 7mm Backcountry cartridge uses a patented Peak Alloy steel case rather than conventional brass. That one-piece construction tolerates higher pressure more consistently than drawn brass, which allows magnum-class velocities from a shorter, lighter package — a meaningful advantage for hunters packing into the backcountry where rifle weight compounds over miles.
The 195-grain Berger Elite Hunter bullet is where the long-range performance is actually delivered. Its hybrid ogive geometry blends a tangent nose base with a secant nose tip, a shape that reduces drag more aggressively than a pure tangent profile while remaining less sensitive to seating depth variation than a full secant design.
