Federal’s Gold Medal Paper line is built for clay target shooters who care about consistent, repeatable performance across a long day of breaking birds. The paper hull is Federal’s own proprietary design, and it delivers the classic feel that many competitive shooters prefer over plastic — a softer, more natural compression on firing that contributes to the load’s shooting characteristics.

The brass head is worth noting because it does real mechanical work: brass is harder and more dimensionally stable than steel under repeated chamber pressures, which translates to cleaner extraction and fewer feeding hiccups across a range of semi-auto and pump shotguns. The two-piece wad uses Federal’s SoftCell technology, which cushions the shot column at the moment of ignition rather than transmitting that initial spike directly through to the shooter. The practical result is reduced felt recoil and a more uniform pellet release, which tightens patterns at the distances where clay targets are typically engaged.

The shot itself is extra-high-antimony lead, a harder alloy than standard lead shot. Harder shot deforms less under the acceleration forces of firing, which preserves the spherical shape of individual pellets and produces more even, predictable patterns downrange. That consistency matters when you’re calling your shot placement and need the pattern to land where you expect it.

One thing to know before purchasing for sanctioned events: Federal explicitly states these loads do not qualify for Olympic or international competitions. For FITASC, Sporting Clays, Skeet, and recreational trap, they’re a straightforward choice. The box contains 25 shells.
