Federal’s High Over All line was built around one specific demand: giving serious competitive shooters a shell they can reload repeatedly without sacrificing consistency round to round. This is a load for trap, skeet, and sporting clays competitors who shoot enough volume that hull longevity and pattern uniformity are practical concerns, not marketing talking points.

The pellets are hard, high-antimony lead, which resists deformation under the sudden acceleration of ignition. Softer lead squashes and flattens as it travels through the wad and choke, producing fliers and ragged patterns; the higher antimony content here keeps each pellet closer to round, so the pattern it throws at a crossing target is tighter and more predictable. That consistency matters most at the distances where a #9 shot charge starts to open up and any degradation in pellet shape compounds the spread.

The wad — Federal calls it the Podium — is a one-piece tapered design that cushions the shot column at ignition and releases it cleanly. The hull itself is built to the same standard: solid brass head and a tapered, single-piece plastic body that tolerates reloading with a wider range of wads than a standard hull. The eight-segment crimp opens uniformly, which helps maintain consistent pressure curves across a reloading run. At 1,335 fps out of a 2-3/4-inch shell, the velocity sits high enough to reach aerial targets confidently without adding unnecessary recoil for a shooter burning through a large volume of shells in a single session.
