Prairie Storm FS Lead is Federal’s answer to a specific upland-hunting problem: conventional wads and uniform payloads tend to produce uneven patterns, particularly through the tighter chokes common in over-unders and semi-autos designed for field use. This load addresses that with two interlocking design choices that work together rather than independently.

The FLITECONTROL FLEX wad opens from the rear as it exits the muzzle, which slows the wad’s separation from the shot column in a controlled way. Because the wad peels back rather than being pushed forward off the pellets, the shot cloud stays more cohesive through the choke’s constriction and immediately after. The result is a more evenly distributed pattern at hunting distances, which matters more on fast-flushing pheasant or quail than raw pellet count does.

The payload itself is a deliberate split: 70 percent standard copper-plated lead shot and 30 percent FLITESTOPPER lead pellets. The FLITESTOPPER pellets carry a scored ring around their equator. On impact, that ring causes the pellet to open and cut a wider channel through tissue than a round ball would, without requiring the velocity that expanding slugs or sabot designs depend on. Mixing the two pellet types means the pattern delivers both deep-penetrating round shot and wider-cutting FLITESTOPPER pellets across the same strike zone, which reduces the chance of a marginal hit that only wounds.

At 1,330 fps the load moves fast enough to retain energy at the ranges where upland birds are typically taken, and the 1-1/4 oz charge gives enough pellet density that the mixed payload doesn’t thin the pattern. Boxes are packed 25 rounds each.
