Description
Federal Premium Prairie Storm FS Lead is a purpose-built upland hunting load designed around the specific demands of pheasant hunters who push birds at varying distances and need consistent pattern density across the whole shot column, not just at the center. The engineering centers on two interlocking systems that work together rather than independently.
The FLITECONTROL FLEX wad opens from the rear rather than the front, which keeps the shot charge contained longer after it leaves the muzzle and produces more uniform patterns through a wider range of choke constrictions — including more open chokes that would ordinarily cause a standard cup-style wad to shed pellets unevenly. That versatility matters in the field where you may not have the opportunity to swap chokes between tight and open country.
The payload itself is a deliberate mix: 70 percent conventional copper-plated lead pellets and 30 percent FLITESTOPPER pellets. The FLITESTOPPER pellets carry a scored band around their equator that causes them to shed a small disc of lead on impact, cutting a wider wound channel than a round ball would produce at the same diameter. That design choice prioritizes lethality at the point of impact rather than raw downrange energy alone, which is particularly relevant on late-season roosters with heavy feathering.
Running at 1,330 fps with a 1-1/4 oz payload of #5 shot, this load favors hunters who want a manageable impulse without sacrificing shot charge mass. It ships in 25-round boxes, with case quantities of 250 rounds available for hunters who put in serious volume across a full season.
