Federal Premium Prairie Storm FS Lead is a purpose-built upland load designed for hunters who need reliable, even patterns on fast-moving birds at varying distances. The load is not a simple copper-plated charge — it combines two distinct pellet types in a single hull to address the uneven pattern density that plagues conventional upland loads.

The payload splits 70 percent standard copper-plated lead shot against 30 percent FLITESTOPPER lead pellets. The FLITESTOPPER pellets have a pronounced leading-edge cut that opens wound channels wider than a round pellet would, which matters when a bird is hit at the fringe of effective range where pellet energy is already marginal. The copper-plated portion retains its round profile for consistent downrange energy. Together, the two pellet types fill out the pattern more evenly from center to edge than a homogeneous payload typically does.

Delivering that payload cleanly depends on the FLITECONTROL FLEX wad, which opens from the rear rather than peeling away from the front. Rear-opening wad release keeps the wad and shot column together longer before separation, and because the wad exits behind the shot rather than disrupting it from the sides, pellets arrive at the pattern plane with less scatter. Critically, the FLITECONTROL FLEX wad is designed to work through any choke constriction — including tighter upland chokes — where earlier FLITECONTROL designs could bind or produce erratic results.

Muzzle velocity of 1,330 fps gives the load enough retained energy for clean kills at reasonable upland ranges without punishing recoil in a light field gun. This is a 25-round box, making it practical for a day afield rather than bench work.
