Federal Premium Terminal Ascent is built for hunters who take shots at distances where conventional bonded bullets start to lose their reliability — whether the range is close enough that impact velocity is high, or far enough that it has dropped well below 2,000 fps. The bullet handles both ends of that spectrum through two distinct design choices that work together rather than compromising each other.

The Slipstream polymer tip serves a different purpose than a standard polymer tip. Most tipped bullets require a threshold velocity to initiate reliable expansion; the Slipstream design lowers that threshold by roughly 200 fps compared to comparable designs, which matters on game taken at the outer edge of practical range. At close range, where velocity is high and the risk is over-penetration or jacket separation, the copper shank and bonded lead core keep the bullet together and drive it deep regardless of the violence of impact.

The AccuChannel groove technology cut into the bullet’s shank reduces drag and contributes to the very high ballistic coefficient — .663 G1, 0.341 G7 — that makes the long-range performance possible in the first place. A flatter trajectory and reduced wind drift are the practical results, not just numbers on paper. The bullet’s sleek, high-BC profile is also what allows it to retain enough velocity at distance to still expand reliably when the Slipstream tip does its work.

Each round leaves the muzzle at 2,850 fps and is seated over Federal’s Gold Medal primer, which is the same primer used in their match-grade target ammunition — chosen here for consistency rather than any softpoint hunting primer would deliver. This is a round suited to a hunter who shoots at unknown distances and needs one load to perform across the full range of conditions a season might present.
