Description

Federal’s Force X2 Shorty is built around two interlocking ideas: a shell short enough to dramatically increase magazine capacity in compatible firearms, and a pellet engineered to do more work once it arrives. At 1-3/4 inches, these shells cycle in shotguns specifically designed to feed sub-length ammunition, such as the Mossberg 590S, and that shorter overall length translates directly into additional rounds on board without changing the gun itself.

The payload consists of six 00 buckshot pellets with a copper-plated FX2 construction. The copper plating is not cosmetic — it controls the split. On impact, each pellet is designed to separate into two equal halves, which means a six-pellet charge is engineered to produce up to twelve wound channels rather than six. Standard 00 buckshot stays intact and follows a single path through tissue; these do not. The segmenting behavior also reduces the energy each fragment carries after the split, which lowers the risk of over-penetration compared to a pellet that remains whole.

Recoil from a short, light shell is inherently more manageable than from a full-length load, and Federal has tuned the velocity to 1,245 fps — enough to reliably cycle the action and maintain terminal performance while keeping the impulse at a level that allows fast follow-up shots. Each box contains ten rounds. This load is purpose-built for home and personal defense use in a compatible shotgun, and the engineering reflects that specific context rather than being adapted from a field or competition shell.
