Description
Federal’s Punch line was built around a straightforward premise: a defensive hollow point designed specifically for personal protection, without paying for features that don’t improve terminal performance in real-world scenarios. The 120-grain jacketed hollow point is engineered to produce consistent expansion and adequate penetration across the most common defensive situations, including through typical barriers a round might encounter before reaching a threat.
The jacketed hollow point construction balances two competing demands: enough expansion to transfer energy efficiently and limit over-penetration, and enough penetration to reliably reach vital tissue. Federal tuned the skived jacket and soft lead core to hit that balance at the 1,000 fps muzzle velocity this load produces, which is meaningful because expansion behavior is velocity-dependent — a bullet optimized for this pressure level won’t necessarily perform the same way at significantly different velocities.
The brass case carries a sealed primer, which matters for defensive ammunition that may sit chambered or in a carry gun through temperature swings, humidity, and handling. Primer seal reduces the risk of moisture intrusion degrading ignition reliability over time. The +P rating indicates this load runs at elevated pressure compared to standard .38 Special, which contributes to the velocity and expansion characteristics Federal designed around — verify that your revolver is rated for +P before running it regularly. Each box contains 20 rounds.
