Description
Federal Speed-Shok is a steel waterfowl load built around one straightforward priority: keeping pellets moving fast enough to anchor ducks and geese cleanly at hunting distances. The 3-1/2-inch shell pushes a 1-3/8 oz charge of #2 steel at 1,550 fps, and that velocity matters for steel specifically because steel is less dense than lead — it needs to be driven harder to carry enough energy downrange to do the work lead does at a slower pace.
The redesigned Speed-Shok addresses one of the persistent drawbacks of high-velocity steel loads: fouling. Federal reformulated the propellant to burn faster and leave substantially less residue in the barrel and action, which means less scrubbing between hunts and more consistent function through a full day in a blind. The updated high-performance primer supports that cleaner burn by delivering complete, uniform ignition on every shot — ignition quality has a direct effect on velocity consistency, and consistency is what keeps a pattern predictable from shot to shot.
#2 shot in steel is a versatile selection for mixed-bag waterfowl hunting. It carries enough pellet mass for geese and larger ducks while still delivering a pellet count — 172 per load — that gives you a workable pattern density on smaller birds. Each box contains 25 shells. This is a non-toxic steel load appropriate for all federally designated waterfowl zones where steel is required.
