Description
Federal Premium Ultra Steel is a waterfowl load built around two technologies working together: the rear-opening FLITECONTROL FLEX wad and a double-stack payload of zinc-plated steel shot in two sizes, BB and No. 2. Most steel loads release their shot column almost immediately after leaving the muzzle. The FLITECONTROL FLEX wad delays that separation, keeping pellets grouped tighter for longer and producing denser, more consistent patterns at the ranges where waterfowl are actually shot rather than where you wish they were.
The double-stack configuration addresses a real problem on mixed-species hunts. Larger BB pellets carry energy downrange for bigger birds or longer crossing shots, while the smaller No. 2 pellets fill the pattern and improve hit probability on faster or closer birds. Running a single shot size forces a compromise; this load avoids that by putting both to work simultaneously. The result is a shell that handles a field situation where honkers and mallards might both work the decoys without requiring you to switch loads mid-hunt.
At 1,450 fps, the load moves fast enough to compensate for steel’s lower density relative to lead, keeping downrange energy at a level that makes it effective on geese as well as ducks. The zinc plating on the shot reduces barrel fouling compared to bare steel and helps maintain pellet roundness through the forcing cone, which matters for pattern consistency. A reliable primer and clean-burning propellant round out a load that is straightforward to clean up after a long day in the blind. Sold in 25-round boxes.
