Description

Federal’s Premium Wing-Shok High Velocity load in 28 gauge is built for upland hunters who run small-bore guns and need a shell that pulls its weight in the field. The 28 gauge is a forgiving gauge for all-day carries through heavy cover, and this load is designed to make the most of what the bore can deliver rather than simply scaling down a larger payload.

The shot charge is copper-plated, which serves a practical purpose: the harder surface resists deformation during the violence of ignition and travel down the bore. Rounder pellets fly truer and strike harder at distance, which matters when you are shooting at fast-flushing quail or grouse that have already put some air between themselves and the gun. The result is tighter, more consistent patterns than you would get from soft lead of equivalent size.

At 1,295 feet per second, this is a high-velocity loading, which trades some felt recoil for greater effective range and a flatter shot string. In a well-fitted 28-gauge gun the recoil remains manageable, but the added velocity means your pattern reaches the bird with more retained energy than a standard-velocity equivalent would provide at the same distance.

Federal builds these shells with primers held to tight dimensional and charge-weight tolerances, which keeps ignition consistent from the first shell of the morning to the last. The powder is selected to burn cleanly, reducing fouling accumulation during extended hunts.
