Description
Fiocchi’s Defense Dynamics Low Recoil Aero Slug is built for shooters who need a capable 12-gauge defensive or training load without the punishment of a full-power slug. The reduced recoil formula matters most in two situations: extended training sessions where fatigue accumulates across a box or more of rounds, and defensive use in lightweight or semi-automatic shotguns where a softer impulse improves follow-up shot speed and reliable cycling.
The projectile itself is a rifled hollow-point slug, meaning it carries stabilizing fins cast into the lead body rather than relying on a rifled barrel. That design lets it perform accurately through smoothbore and rifled barrels alike, which keeps your shotgun options open. The hollow-point cavity is engineered to promote controlled expansion on impact, concentrating energy transfer at the target rather than relying on mass alone.
At 1,150 fps muzzle velocity, this load sits meaningfully below standard-velocity 12-gauge slug offerings, which is exactly the point. The tradeoff is a modest reduction in raw kinetic energy at distance, but at home-defense and law-enforcement engagement ranges that difference is negligible, and the lower recoil translates directly into faster, more accurate follow-up shots. The 438-grain slug retains substantial sectional density, so terminal performance remains serious despite the reduced launch speed.
Each box contains 10 rounds. The 2-3/4-inch shell length is compatible with the vast majority of 12-gauge chambers, making this a practical choice whether your shotgun is a pump or a semi-automatic platform.
