Description
Fusion is Federal’s dedicated deer hunting line, designed around the specific problem of transferring energy efficiently through hide and into vitals at typical hunting distances. The bullet is built with an electro-chemically bonded copper jacket, a process that fuses the jacket to the lead core at a molecular level rather than mechanically crimping or locking them together. That bond resists jacket separation on impact, which is what allows the bullet to hold most of its weight as it expands and drives deep rather than shedding petals and losing momentum partway through.
The nose is skived before the bullet leaves the factory, meaning shallow cuts are made into the tip to pre-program where and how expansion begins. This removes the variability that comes from relying on impact alone to initiate petal formation, so the bullet opens consistently whether it strikes at the near end or far end of its effective range. The pressure-formed core works alongside the bonded jacket to keep the expanded diameter uniform rather than ragged. At 130 grains from a .270 Winchester, this load exits the muzzle at 3,050 feet per second with a ballistic coefficient of .400, which gives it a reasonably flat trajectory and manageable wind drift through the ranges where most deer are taken. A box contains 20 rounds.
