Federal’s Fusion line was purpose-built for deer hunting from the ground up, and the 7mm-08 Remington 140-grain load is a strong representative of that design philosophy. The 7mm-08 is a cartridge that earns its following among deer hunters by delivering a flat trajectory and manageable recoil in a short-action package — qualities that make it equally useful for hunters covering open country or sitting in tight blinds.

The bullet at the heart of this load is what separates Fusion from conventional cup-and-draw projectiles. The copper jacket is bonded to the lead core through an electrochemical process rather than mechanically formed around it, which eliminates the core-jacket separation that can blunt terminal performance on heavy-bodied animals. The nose is skived — pre-cut at the tip — so expansion initiates reliably and consistently across a range of impact velocities, including the reduced speeds that come with longer shots. That controlled expansion, combined with the bonded construction that keeps the bullet together, is what produces the deep penetration Fusion is designed around.

At 2,850 feet per second from the muzzle and a ballistic coefficient of .390, the 140-grain load holds velocity well enough to remain effective at practical hunting distances. Muzzle energy comes in at 2,525 foot-pounds, and the ballistics table shows the projectile retaining nearly 1,000 foot-pounds at 500 yards — sufficient for responsible shots on deer-sized game well beyond most field ranges. Brass cases are boxer-primed and reloadable, which matters if you handload and want to work up a load around a bullet you already trust in the field. Each box contains 20 rounds.
