Federal’s Fusion Tipped is deer ammunition built around a single engineering priority: transferring as much energy as possible into the target while keeping the bullet together through the process. The original Fusion line accomplished this through an electrochemical bonding process that fuses the copper jacket directly to the pressure-formed lead core, eliminating the separation that plagues conventional cup-and-core bullets on high-velocity impacts. The Fusion Tipped carries that same bonded construction forward and adds a polymer tip to the package.

The tip does two things. First, it raises the ballistic coefficient to 0.501, which means the bullet sheds velocity more slowly and bucks wind more effectively than a flat-meplat or exposed-lead design of comparable weight. At extended ranges, that translates to less holdover and less wind correction needed at the point of aim. Second, the tip sits above a skived nose cavity, so on impact it drives inward to initiate expansion reliably and consistently, even at the reduced velocities typical of longer shots. Muzzle velocity is 2,600 fps from a standard test barrel, and the 180-grain weight in .308 Win gives the bullet enough sectional density to penetrate deeply once it opens.

The boat tail base stabilizes the bullet in flight, and the bonded construction keeps weight retention high through expansion, which matters when you need the bullet to reach vitals after passing through hide and shoulder. This load is a practical choice for hunters who take shots beyond 200 yards on deer-sized game and want a bullet that performs consistently at both ends of that range envelope.
