Description

Hornady’s Custom Lite slug line was built for shooters who run a 20-gauge for deer or hogs but find standard slug loads punishing to shoot — whether because of a lightweight gun, a youth shooter in the mix, or simply a long day in the field. The design targets a meaningful recoil reduction compared to standard slug loads, which keeps follow-up shots faster and makes the gun more manageable for those who are recoil-sensitive without asking them to give up terminal effectiveness at realistic hunting distances.

The projectile is Hornady’s FTX bullet, a flex-tip design that improves the slug’s ballistic coefficient over a conventional Foster slug. That translates into a flatter arc and better retained energy as distance increases, with reliable expansion on impact driven by the tip compressing into the lead core. The load is rated for rifled barrels, where the sabot engages the rifling to spin-stabilize the slug and extract the accuracy the FTX design is capable of — meaningful out to 150 yards under good conditions. Shooting this through a smoothbore with a rifled choke is a different proposition and will not give the same results.

Fast-burning propellants allow Hornady to keep chamber pressure and muzzle blast in check while still driving the 250-grain projectile to useful hunting velocities. The result is a load that is lighter on the shooter but not light on the target. Each box contains five rounds.
