Description

Hornady’s Superformance Varmint line is built around one straightforward goal: push a varmint bullet faster than standard propellant technology allows, without requiring a specialized firearm to do it. This 35-grain NTX load achieves a muzzle velocity of 4,000 fps, and because the propellant formulation does the work rather than a hotter charge in an incompatible powder, the ammunition cycles reliably in semi-automatic platforms as well as bolt guns.

The NTX bullet is a lead-free design with a polymer tip. That tip serves two purposes: it initiates expansion reliably on impact, and it preserves a consistent ballistic coefficient across rounds in the box, which translates to predictable point-of-impact at distance. At 35 grains, the projectile is on the lighter end of what .223 REM commonly offers, and that low mass combined with the elevated velocity produces a trajectory flat enough to reduce the holdover math at typical varmint distances. Wind drift is also reduced relative to heavier, slower loads in the same caliber.

Terminal behavior is aggressive and rapid — the bullet is designed to fragment on contact rather than pass through intact, which keeps energy transfer in the target and limits the risk of a ricochet or an exit wound that complicates pelt recovery. Brass cases are reloadable and use standard Boxer primers, so handloaders can pull value out of spent brass after the hunt. Each box contains 20 rounds.
