Description

Hornady’s Custom line in .32 ACP is aimed at shooters who carry a compact pistol chambered in this caliber and want a factory load built around a purpose-designed defensive bullet rather than a generic FMJ. The 60-grain XTP — Extreme Terminal Performance — is Hornady’s own jacketed hollow point, constructed with a thicker jacket near the base that controls expansion progressively as the bullet drives into tissue, rather than fragmenting or collapsing prematurely. That controlled expansion is what distinguishes the XTP from standard hollow points and makes it a practical choice when penetration depth matters alongside energy transfer.

The load is assembled in new brass cases with Boxer primers, which means the spent brass can be resized and reloaded if you have the dies for .32 ACP. Cases are loaded with non-corrosive powder, so storage and bore maintenance are straightforward. Hornady hand-inspects the finished cartridges before boxing, which catches dimensional issues that could cause feeding problems in a compact pistol — a real consideration in smaller platforms where feed geometry tolerances are tighter than in full-size guns.

Muzzle velocity out of a 4-inch test barrel is 1,000 fps, producing 133 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle. That figure reflects what the cartridge actually delivers rather than a best-case number from an oversized barrel. Boxes contain 25 rounds, and case quantities run 250 rounds. If you carry a .32 ACP pistol for personal protection and want a load with documented construction rather than a commodity round, this is a straightforward choice from the manufacturer who designed the bullet.
