Description

Hornady’s Critical Duty line is built specifically for law enforcement and serious defensive carry, where ammunition has to perform reliably after passing through intermediate barriers — clothing, drywall, auto glass — before reaching a threat. The .357 SIG cartridge is a natural fit for that mission: its bottlenecked case and high operating pressure drive projectiles at velocities that resist deflection through common barriers better than slower, wider pistol rounds.

The 135-grain FlexLock bullet is the engineering core of this load. It uses a soft polymer tip seated in the hollow point cavity. On contact, that tip is driven inward to initiate consistent expansion, even when the cavity would otherwise be plugged by barrier material that has been forced into it during penetration. A full brass jacket is locked to the lead core at the cannelure, which resists the core-jacket separation that can occur when a bullet strikes an intermediate barrier at velocity. The result is a projectile that tends to stay intact and continue expanding after passing through the kind of obstacles a defensive shot realistically involves.

Brass casings with Boxer priming mean the spent cases are fully reloadable for those who collect brass, though the primary draw here is primer reliability under the demanding pressure curve of the .357 SIG. The load is packaged twenty rounds to a box and is available in a two-hundred-round case for training and qualification use alongside carry rotation.
