Description
Hornady’s Dangerous Game line exists for one purpose: putting hunters in a position to take large and genuinely dangerous animals with confidence that the ammunition will not let them down at the moment it matters most. This load, built around the 270-grain InterLock bullet, is aimed at hunters pursuing thick-skinned, heavy-boned game where a round that loses its integrity on impact is worse than no shot at all.
The InterLock design integrates a mechanical lock between the bullet’s core and jacket rather than relying on adhesive bonding alone. That physical connection resists core-jacket separation under the violent deceleration that happens when a heavy bullet enters dense muscle and bone, which keeps more of the bullet’s original weight driving forward and maintains a wound channel deep enough to reach vitals on an animal that may be several feet of tissue away from the surface. The Spire Point Recoil Proof profile addresses a separate problem specific to magazine-fed dangerous-game rifles: in a loaded magazine under recoil, pointed bullets can be driven rearward into the primers of cartridges behind them, or the tip itself can deform and disrupt feeding. Hornady’s RP construction stiffens and protects the tip so the round feeds and performs consistently regardless of how many rounds the magazine has cycled through.
Hornady loads this cartridge with brass casings and non-corrosive primers, and matches the powder charge specifically to the .375 Ruger case geometry to reach a muzzle velocity of 2,840 fps. The .375 Ruger was designed to match .375 H&H Magnum ballistics from a standard-length action and shorter barrel, and this load reflects that intent — delivering the velocity and energy that makes the .375 bore diameter a credible choice for the heaviest legal game worldwide.
