Description
Hornady Critical Duty is built for those who carry a full-size handgun and need ammunition that performs reliably when a shot must pass through real-world barriers before reaching a threat. That design priority shapes every component choice in the round.
The FlexLock bullet at the core of this loading combines two mechanical systems that address a single problem: conventional hollow points can pack with barrier material and fail to expand. The Flex Tip insert occupies the hollow cavity, preventing clogging so the bullet expands consistently whether it has passed through glass, drywall, sheet metal, or clothing. The InterLock band is a physical cannelure that mechanically locks the copper jacket to the lead core, resisting the separation that barrier penetration would otherwise cause. Together they keep the bullet working as designed through the full sequence of an FBI Protocol test scenario, not just in bare gelatin.
Nickel-plated brass cases offer a practical advantage in low-light chamber checks — the bright finish reflects available light more clearly than bare brass, making a visual or tactile press-check faster and more reliable. The propellant is chosen for low flash characteristics, which matters when a defensive shot in a dark environment would otherwise leave the shooter partially blinded by muzzle flash at the worst possible moment.
This is a 25-round box, with case packaging available in 250 rounds, and the load is intended for duty and serious personal protection use rather than range practice. If your carry or duty pistol is a full-size platform, this is the load Hornady engineered it for.
