Hornady’s BLACK line was built around the reality that modern sporting rifles are used for more than paper targets, and this 6.8mm Remington SPC loading reflects that intent. The 6.8 SPC was developed specifically to deliver more terminal energy than 5.56 NATO from standard-length AR platforms, and pairing it with the V-MAX bullet puts that energy to work efficiently. The V-MAX is a polymer-tipped expanding bullet: the tip initiates rapid, consistent expansion on impact, while the jacket and core are designed to transfer energy quickly rather than pass through with excess retained velocity. That combination makes this load well suited to varmint and predator hunting where a clean, decisive result matters.

The brass casing is reloadable and boxer-primed, which matters to anyone who runs a press. Ballistic coefficient of .370 (G1) and a sectional density of .205 give the 110-grain projectile reasonable resistance to wind drift and predictable drop at typical field ranges. The published trajectory data — generated from a 16-inch test barrel — shows the bullet staying supersonic well past 300 yards, so holdover stays manageable at distances where varmint shots realistically happen. Muzzle energy runs just under 1,600 ft-lbs, dropping to roughly 875 ft-lbs at 300 yards, which is still meaningful for the intended quarry.
