Description

Hornady Black 4.6x30mm ammunition is purpose-built for the HK MP7 platform and the handful of other firearms chambered in this compact intermediate cartridge. The 4.6x30mm round was originally developed to deliver armor-defeating performance at short range from a very small, lightweight host weapon, and the Black line carries that intent into a civilian-accessible load built around the V-Max projectile.

The V-Max bullet uses a polymer tip seated into a lead core. On impact, that tip drives inward and initiates rapid, controlled expansion even at the moderate velocities typical of short-barreled hosts. For a cartridge that would otherwise be limited to full-metal-jacket configurations in most loadings, the V-Max gives this round meaningful terminal performance on soft tissue and makes it a credible option for home defense or varminting where the platform is appropriate.

Hornady loads Black ammunition with clean-burning propellants selected to reduce fouling and suppress muzzle flash, which matters in a platform often run suppressed or in low-light conditions. The brass casing is reloadable for those who handload, though the 4.6x30mm is a niche enough cartridge that component availability is limited compared to mainstream rifle calibers.
