Description

Hornady’s Critical Defense line was built around a straightforward problem: standard hollow points can plug with clothing material or barrier debris before they reach tissue, which compromises or eliminates expansion. The FTX bullet addresses this with a polymer tip seated in the hollow point cavity. On impact, that tip is driven inward, initiating and sustaining expansion even when the nose has contacted soft fabric or other intermediate material before reaching the target.

The .30 Carbine cartridge produces enough velocity to work the FTX design reliably, and at 110 grains this load holds to the bullet weight the cartridge was built around. Muzzle velocity is rated at 2,000 fps, generating 977 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle — figures that place it well above common handgun calibers while keeping recoil manageable in a carbine-length platform. This makes it a reasonable choice for anyone running an M1 Carbine or similar pistol-caliber carbine for home defense, where the longer sight radius and stock aid shot placement under stress.

Cases are nickel-plated brass, which offers slightly better corrosion resistance than bare brass and makes it easier to visually confirm chambering status in low light. Primers are Boxer-type, so the cases can be reloaded if you choose to retain them. Each box contains 25 rounds.
