Description

Hornady’s LEVERevolution line was developed specifically to solve a problem that had limited lever-action ammunition for generations: the tubular magazine. Traditional pointed bullets can’t be stacked nose-to-primer in a tube magazine without risking a chain-fire under recoil, so lever guns had long been limited to flat-nose or round-nose projectiles with poor aerodynamic efficiency. The FTX bullet answers that with a flexible polymer tip that compresses safely on impact with the primer in front of it but initiates expansion just like a conventional polymer-tipped projectile when it hits a target. The result is a substantially higher ballistic coefficient than flat-point loads allow, which translates to less velocity loss at distance and a flatter arc over a given range.

At 140 grains, this load is well-suited to carbine-length lever actions chambered in .357 Magnum, where it leaves the muzzle at 1,440 fps and generates 644 ft-lbs of energy. The sectional density of .157 and a G1 BC of .169 are modest by rifle standards, but the point of comparison is the flat-nose ammunition this cartridge historically required — not centerfire rifle loads. Compared to a conventional flat-point .357 Magnum load, LEVERevolution recovers meaningful energy at range. The boxer-primed brass case is reloadable. Each box contains 25 rounds.
