The load is centered on the ELD-X bullet, which uses Hornady’s Heat Shield tip. Conventional polymer tips deform from aerodynamic heating in flight, which degrades the ballistic coefficient over distance; the Heat Shield tip resists that deformation, so the bullet’s actual in-flight behavior tracks more closely to what the ballistic tables predict. That matters most when you’re holding for a target beyond 400 yards and trusting your drop compensation to be accurate.

The ELD-X is a dual-purpose design. At close range and higher impact velocities, the bullet initiates expansion rapidly through a thin-jacketed nose section. At longer range, where impact velocity is lower, the InterLock-style construction retains enough shank weight to drive through heavy muscle and bone. This means you don’t have to choose between a bullet built for close shots and one tuned for extended range—the ELD-X is intended to handle both within a realistic hunting envelope. A ballistic coefficient of .597 (G1) gives the 200-grain projectile meaningful resistance to wind drift and velocity loss at distance, which is part of why Hornady pairs this weight with the .300 Weatherby Magnum’s high-velocity case. Brass construction and Boxer priming mean spent cases are reloadable for handloaders who want to work up their own loads around the same bullet. Each box contains 20 rounds.
