Description

Hornady’s Superformance line exists to solve a specific problem: hunters and long-range shooters who want more downrange energy and a flatter trajectory without handloading or switching to a magnum cartridge. Superformance ammunition achieves up to 200 feet per second of additional muzzle velocity compared to standard loads of the same bullet weight, and it does so without increasing chamber pressure or producing noticeably sharper recoil. That gain comes from a propellant blend engineered to burn more efficiently across the full length of the barrel, not from simply packing in more powder.

The 130-grain SST bullet is a good match for this concept. The SST — Super Shock Tip — uses a polymer tip seated over a lead core to initiate rapid, controlled expansion on impact. The tip also streamlines the ogive, which raises the ballistic coefficient and helps the bullet retain velocity and energy further downrange. A G1 BC of 0.46 means this projectile holds speed reasonably well through typical hunting distances, and a sectional density of 0.242 supports reliable penetration on medium to large game. Muzzle energy runs around 2,955 foot-pounds, which gives the shooter meaningful margin at distance.

The brass cases are Boxer-primed and fully reloadable, so handloaders can recover the brass and put it back to work. This load is available in boxes of 20 or in case quantities of 200 rounds, making it practical to stock for a season or work up a drop chart before the hunt.
