Description

Hornady’s Superformance line exists to solve a specific problem for hunters and long-range shooters: getting meaningful additional velocity out of a standard cartridge without handloading, changing powder charge weights, or accepting increased recoil and muzzle blast. The .30-06 Springfield loading with the 165-grain SST bullet achieves this by pairing purpose-developed propellants with normal charge weights, producing velocities 100 to 200 fps above conventional factory loads while remaining safe in semi-automatic, lever-action, and pump-action platforms — not just bolt guns.

The Super Shock Tip bullet does two things at once. The polymer tip initiates expansion reliably and consistently at a wide range of impact velocities, which matters at longer distances where the projectile has shed speed. The boat-tail base reduces aerodynamic drag across the flight path, which preserves that velocity longer and flattens trajectory — a practical benefit when ranging is imprecise or a target presents at an unexpected distance. The hollow-point cavity beneath the tip drives rapid, even mushrooming that opens a wide wound channel through tissue, making this load well suited to deer and medium game where quick incapacitation matters. The jacket is copper over a lead core, and the brass case is reloadable for those who want to work up handloads after the factory rounds have done their job in the field. Ballistic coefficient is .447 and sectional density is .248, giving the bullet good downrange performance and adequate penetration depth for most North American hunting applications.
