Hornady’s V-Match line was built for two jobs that share the same demand: putting small, fast projectiles on target with repeatable precision, whether that target is a paper bull or a varmint at distance. The 6.5mm Grendel chambering gives this load a meaningful reach advantage over .223 in the same AR-15 platform, and the 100-grain ELD-VT bullet is the reason it works at both ends of that description.
ELD-VT stands for Extreme Low Drag Varmint/Target. The key design choice is a polymer tip engineered to retain its shape during flight rather than deform from aerodynamic heating—a problem that degrades ballistic coefficient over distance. That consistency is what the G1 BC of 0.484 and G7 BC of 0.266 actually represent: the bullet arriving at the target with the trajectory your data predicts, not one that drifted because the tip changed shape. At 100 grains on a 6.5mm bore, sectional density comes in at 0.205, which is enough to maintain velocity and resist wind deflection further out than most lighter varmint projectiles allow.
Terminal behavior is deliberately front-loaded. The ELD-VT is designed for rapid expansion on impact, which produces decisive results on varmints without the deep penetration a heavier hunting bullet would deliver. That makes it a reasonable choice when you want the bullet to stop inside the animal rather than exit into the next county. For target shooting, the same aerodynamic stability that controls expansion onset also flattens the arc and tightens groups. Boxer-primed brass cases make reloading straightforward for handloaders who want to develop a load around this projectile. Each box contains 20 rounds.
