Description

The Magpul Hunter Lite stock in Flat Dark Earth is built for hunters and field shooters who want to move the Savage Axis short-action platform closer to a working rifle without committing to a full chassis system. The premise is straightforward: the factory Axis stock does its job, but it leaves weight, fit, and attachment options on the table. The Hunter Lite addresses those gaps while staying light enough that it doesn’t negate the Axis’s appeal as a packable, affordable bolt gun.

The stock uses an overmolded construction — a rigid polymer skeleton with a softer material at grip and forend contact surfaces — which gives a more secure hold in cold or wet conditions without adding bulk. Length of pull is adjustable through a spacer system at the buttpad, so the stock can be fitted to the shooter rather than accepted as-is, a meaningful advantage when the rifle will be shared or when a shooter is working in heavy clothing. The forend includes mounting points for a sling stud and is compatible with Magpul’s own M-LOK accessories, letting you add a bipod or forend attachment without a separate rail adapter.

Because the Hunter Lite is cut specifically for the Savage Axis short action, the bedding geometry and trigger guard fitment are matched to that receiver — this isn’t a universal drop-in that requires shimming or fitment work. The FDE finish is Magpul’s Flat Dark Earth, a muted earth tone that reads low-contrast in open terrain. This stock does not accept the Axis’s factory pistol grip separately; grip angle and profile are integral to the Hunter Lite’s design, so the ergonomic change is part of the package whether you want it or not.
