Description
Mec-Gar has been manufacturing magazines for major firearm producers and military contracts since 1965, and this 1911 full-size magazine reflects that long production history. The tube is formed from heat-treated carbon steel, which helps it hold its shape under the repeated compression cycles that come with regular use. The spring is made from high tensile music wire, chosen for its ability to maintain consistent feed pressure over time without taking a permanent set.
The finish is where this magazine earns particular attention. Mec-Gar calls it Anti-Friction coating, and it does three things at once: it reduces the resistance you feel when pressing rounds into the magazine, it lowers the friction between cartridge and feed lips during cycling, and it provides a degree of corrosion resistance that bare steel cannot. For a carry gun that sees daily handling and sweat exposure, that last point matters more than it might seem.
The follower is high-impact polymer, which keeps weight down at the front of the stack and resists the kind of deformation that can cause nose-high feeding. The floorplate is also polymer and includes a shroud designed to prevent over-insertion — a small detail that keeps the magazine seated correctly and avoids a situation where the floorplate contacts the frame and prevents the magazine from locking in. This is a standard-capacity magazine purpose-built for the full-size 1911 platform, manufactured in Italy to Mec-Gar’s own OEM tolerances.
