Mec-Gar has manufactured magazines as an OEM supplier for major firearm producers since 1965, and this 18-round magazine carries that same production standard into the aftermarket for 2011, 2311, and Prodigy-pattern pistols. It is a straightforward choice for a shooter who runs one of these platforms and wants a flush-fitting spare that holds one additional round compared to the standard factory magazine — without requiring a basepad extension or any modification to the pistol.

The tube is heat-treated carbon steel, which allows the walls to be formed thin enough for reliable feeding while still resisting deformation under repeated loading and the stresses of a dropped mag on hard surfaces. The follower is a high-impact polymer unit, which keeps weight at the back of the stack low and reduces the friction that causes tilting during the final few rounds of a compressed spring. The anti-friction coating on the body serves a similar purpose at the chamber end — a slicker surface means the magazine seats and strips more consistently, particularly when hands are wet or gloved.

The polymer floorplate keeps the overall package simple and replaceable. The spring is high-tensile music wire, selected for consistent force across the full travel of the follower rather than a progressive rate that would make topping off the last few rounds difficult.

One note from the manufacturer: STI and Staccato made dimensional changes to their 2011-platform pistols in 2024, and this magazine is not compatible with pistols produced after those changes were implemented. Verify your pistol’s production date before ordering if you are running one of those builds.
