Description

Mec-Gar has manufactured magazines for major firearm producers and military contracts since 1965, and this P228 magazine is built to the same standard as those OEM components. The tube is formed from heat-treated carbon steel, which resists deformation under the sustained compression of a fully loaded stack, while the spring is wound from high-tensile music wire to maintain consistent feed force over a long service life. The follower and floorplate are both high-impact polymer, keeping weight down where it matters least.

The Anti-Friction coating is the detail that sets this variant apart from a standard blued magazine. Rather than a conventional finish, it reduces the friction between cartridges and the tube wall during loading and cycling, which makes hand-loading a full 18-round stack noticeably easier and keeps the feed path cleaner under hard use. The same coating also provides meaningful corrosion resistance without adding the dimensional uncertainty that can come from thicker surface treatments.

Capacity comes from a +3 high-impact polymer floorplate that extends the basepad relative to Mec-Gar’s flush-fit 15-round P228 magazine, adding three rounds without requiring any modification to the pistol. This magazine is compatible with the P228 and earlier flat-sided P229 pistols. It does not fit the P229 E2, which uses a wider, tapered magazine well. All Mec-Gar magazines are manufactured in Italy.
