Description
Mec-Gar has manufactured magazines for major firearm producers and military contracts since 1965, and this SIG Pro magazine reflects that background. It is a direct fit for the SP2009 and SP2022 pistols and brings capacity to 17 rounds through a polymer +2 floorplate adapter — only about five-eighths of an inch longer than a flush-fit magazine, so it does not meaningfully change the handling profile of the gun.
The tube is drawn from heat-treated carbon steel, which resists the deformation that can cause feeding inconsistencies under sustained use. The spring is high-tensile music wire, chosen for its ability to maintain consistent pressure across a full stack of rounds without taking a permanent set over time. The high-impact polymer follower is designed to present each cartridge at a consistent angle, which matters more at the top and bottom of the stack where geometry is least forgiving.
The Anti-Friction coating is the defining feature of the AFC variant. Applied to the interior of the tube, it reduces the resistance a round encounters as it strips from the magazine lips, which lowers the chance of hesitation during the feed cycle. The same coating provides corrosion resistance without the build-up risks associated with some wet lubricants. For a pistol used in duty or defensive contexts — where magazines may spend long periods loaded — that combination of smooth feeding and passive corrosion protection is worth considering over a standard blued interior.
Made in Italy. Mec-Gar is the OEM supplier for SIG Sauer’s own factory magazines, so the fit and geometry here are not approximations of the factory spec — they are the factory spec, with the capacity extension and AFC finish added.
