Description
Mec-Gar manufactures magazines as original equipment for some of the largest firearm producers in the world, and this 17-round magazine for the Smith & Wesson 5900 Series, 910, 915, and 659 pistols is built to the same standard. The immediate practical benefit is two additional rounds over the standard 15-round factory magazine, gained without any change to the magazine’s profile — the floorplate sits flush with the grip, so the pistol handles and holsters the same way it always has.
Construction starts with a heat-treated carbon steel tube formed with a dimpled interior. That dimpled design is not decorative: it reduces the contact surface between the tube wall and the loaded rounds, which helps feeding consistency and lowers the force required to seat the magazine under a closed slide. The tube accepts standard Mec-Gar floorplates, springs, and followers, so replacing wear components later is straightforward. The spring itself is high-tensile music wire, and the follower and floorplate are high-impact polymer. The Blued finish on this variant is designated MGSW5917B.
Compatibility extends beyond the S&W models to include the 59, 459, 659, 5903, 5904, 5906, 5923, 5924, 5926, 5943, 5944, and 5946, as well as the Girsan MC21, MC18, and Marlin Camp 9. Mec-Gar has been producing magazines in Italy since 1965, and this magazine is manufactured there using the same tooling and processes applied to their OEM contracts.
