Description
The 590 Shockwave is built for shooters who want a compact, pump-action 12 gauge that handles without a conventional stock. Rather than a traditional buttstock, Mossberg fits the Shockwave with a Raptor bird’s-head grip, which changes the ergonomics entirely — the shooter drives the action forward and back with the support hand on the Corn Cob forend, which includes a strap to keep that hand secure under recoil. The result is a platform that operates differently from a standard shotgun and rewards practice with a specific grip technique.
The barrel carries a Cerakote Flat Dark Earth finish, which is a ceramic-polymer coating applied at the factory. Cerakote adds corrosion and abrasion resistance beyond what blued or standard parkerized steel offers, and it bonds directly to the metal rather than sitting on top of it, so it holds up under field handling without adding meaningful thickness. The FDE color matches widely available gear and gives the whole firearm a cohesive look if that matters to the owner.
The ambidextrous top tang safety is positioned where the thumb naturally rests regardless of which hand is dominant, so no manual conversion or separate lever is needed for left-handed shooters. A front bead sight keeps the sighting system simple and unobtrusive — appropriate for the close-range work this platform is suited to. Capacity runs at 5+1, giving the shooter six rounds of 12 gauge on tap from a tube magazine fed by the pump cycle. The 590 series receiver is steel, consistent with Mossberg’s military and law enforcement contract lineage on the same platform.
