Description
The 590 Shockwave is built for shooters who want a compact, maneuverable 12-gauge pump that stores and deploys in tight spaces — a vehicle, a closet, a work truck. It is not a traditional shotgun, and it is not trying to be. Mossberg designed it around a Raptor bird’s-head pistol grip, which changes how recoil energy is transferred to the hand compared with a conventional stock. Rather than driving straight back into the shoulder, the force is redirected downward through the grip angle, which makes the platform more manageable for repeated firing from unconventional positions.
The corn cob forend is wrapped with a retention strap that keeps the support hand positioned behind the muzzle and provides a positive purchase during the pump stroke. Dual extractors and twin action bars work together to keep the action cycling cleanly under hard use, and the anti-jam elevator helps shells feed reliably from the magazine tube. The tube feeds through a clean-out cap at the muzzle end of the magazine, which simplifies disassembly without tools.
The ambidextrous top-tang safety sits directly under the shooting thumb regardless of which hand is dominant, so there is no reaching around or repositioning to actuate it. The blued barrel wears a front bead sight — practical and unobtrusive for the close-range work this platform is suited to. At 6+1 capacity, the tube gives you meaningful round count without adding excessive length to the package. The heavy-walled barrel contributes to the overall balance and keeps the platform stable during the pump cycle.
