Description
The Mossberg Patriot in .450 Bushmaster is built for hunters who need to put heavy, wide-diameter projectiles into deer, hogs, or bear at close to moderate range and want a bolt-action platform to do it. The .450 Bushmaster cartridge generates substantial energy from a relatively short case, and the 1-in-24 twist rate is optimized for the long, heavy bullets this caliber relies on — faster or slower rifling can destabilize them or leave velocity on the table, so the match here is deliberate rather than incidental.
The 20-inch barrel is a practical field length: long enough to allow the powder charge to burn efficiently and push bullet velocity toward its useful ceiling, short enough that the rifle handles well in a blind or through timber without the swing weight of a full-length sporter barrel. The fluted, threaded barrel sheds a modest amount of weight and the muzzle threads accept a suppressor or muzzle device without requiring gunsmithing. The crown is cut to an 11-degree match angle, which protects the rifling at the muzzle and helps maintain consistent exit conditions from shot to shot.
Mossberg’s LBA trigger is user-adjustable without tools, which matters when you’re dialing in a clean break for field shooting rather than accepting whatever pull weight the factory set. The spiral fluted bolt reduces friction at the lugs and gives the action a faster, lighter cycling feel. The receiver arrives drilled and tapped with Weaver-style bases included, so optic mounting is straightforward. No iron sights are fitted — this rifle assumes glass from the start, and the flat receiver top accommodates most standard scope configurations. A single four-round drop-box magazine is included.
