The Patriot Predator is Mossberg’s bolt-action built around the demands of varmint and predator hunting, where flat trajectories, extended range, and quick follow-up shots matter more than weight savings. It is suited to the shooter who wants a purpose-built field rifle rather than a general-purpose hunting platform pressed into service.

The 1-in-14 twist rate is slower than what most centerfire hunting rifles run, and that is a deliberate choice for .22-250. A faster twist tends to stabilize heavier, longer bullets efficiently, while a 1:14 is optimized for the lighter, shorter projectiles—typically in the 40- to 55-grain range—that let the .22-250 perform at its best. Handloaders and ammo selectors should keep that in mind: push toward heavier long-range match bullets and you may see stability suffer, while fast varmint loads will run well.

The barrel is fluted and threaded, which serves two distinct purposes. Fluting removes material and adds surface area, helping the barrel shed heat during extended sessions—useful when you’re working a field and taking multiple shots in succession. The threaded muzzle accommodates muzzle devices without permanent modification to the barrel. The 22-inch barrel gives the .22-250 enough dwell time to develop velocity without making the rifle unwieldy in the field.

The receiver is topped with a Picatinny rail, so mounting optics requires no additional base purchase—the rifle ships ready to accept rings directly. The trigger is user-adjustable, and the bolt features spiral fluting and an oversized handle that gives a more positive grip during rapid cycling. The stock is finished in Flat Dark Earth synthetic, keeping weight down and eliminating weather concerns. No iron sights are included, which is consistent with the expectation that a dedicated optic will be mounted before the rifle goes to the field.
